More About the Five Senses
What Are the Five Senses?
The five senses help us understand and explore the world around us. Each sense uses a special part of the body to collect information.
-
👀 Sight (See) – We use our eyes to see colors, shapes, and movement. Sight helps us recognize people, objects, and places.
-
👂 Hearing (Hear) – Our ears let us hear sounds like music, voices, and animals. Hearing helps us stay alert and enjoy different noises.
-
👃 Smell (Smell) – We use our nose to smell things like flowers, food, or smoke. Smell can warn us of danger or help us enjoy pleasant scents.
-
👅 Taste (Taste) – Our tongue helps us taste sweet, sour, salty, and bitter foods. Taste helps us enjoy meals and know what’s safe to eat.
-
✋ Touch (Feel) – Our skin helps us feel textures, temperature, and pain. Touch helps us stay safe and comfortable.

Bring in real items – Use food, flowers, or textured objects to explore each sense directly.
-
Play sound games – Let kids guess different sounds like animals, music, or nature noises.
-
Do sensory crafts – Create touch-and-feel collages with soft, rough, or bumpy materials.
-
Smell jars – Fill jars with scents like coffee, lemon, or vanilla for fun smell activities.
